“TOURISM AND WOMEN IN AFRICA”

The chair #UNESCO Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development, the #TIDES, and #EmoturLab, with the collaboration of the United Nations Development Program, has launched “TOURISM AND WOMEN IN AFRICA”, a course aimed at young women from Africa with university studies, which takes place between September to November 2021. The objective of this course is to empower women in Africa and improve their capacities for the development of sustainable tourism. The course is coordinated by the Women for Africa Foundation and financed by the General Directorate of Economic Affairs with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands. More than a dozen teachers from the #ULPGC, the #ULL and the University of Gothenburg exhibit different themes.

The African continent is characterized by the great diversity and potential of living, historical and cultural natural resources that it possesses. That is why tourism is one of the industries with the greatest potential to boost local economies and culture in Africa. After the health crisis of #COVID-19, training plans are urgently needed for the transformation of tourism in Africa, from an economic, environmental and social perspective, also taking into account the important role that women have in this sector
