International Master in Tourism and Sustainable Development – ULPGC TIDES

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) offers the International Master in Tourism and Sustainable Development, delivered by the University Institute for Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development (TIDES). The program is designed to train professionals and researchers capable of developing innovative solutions in sustainable tourism.

Key Highlights:

  • International focus: 80% of students come from abroad.

  • Target audience: Graduates in social sciences, law, natural or technical sciences, and professionals seeking specialization in sustainability.

  • Goal: Prepare students for the global job market or further doctoral studies.

First Semester Courses (6 ECTS each)

  • Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Management: Models, planning, governance, and tools for sustainable tourism.

  • Tourism Behaviour: Producers and Consumers: Study of tourist behavior from both the producer and consumer perspectives.

  • Sustainable Transport Systems and Mobility in Tourism: Transport, GHG emissions, and sustainable mobility solutions.

  • Tourism Marketing and Consumer Behavior: Strategic marketing, consumer behavior, and digital trends.

  • Managing Human Resources and Sustainable Innovation in the Tourism Industry: Leadership, human resources management, and sustainable innovation.

Second Semester

  • Quantitative Methods in Tourism: R programming, data analysis, and machine learning.

  • Sustainable Territorial Development in Tourism: Ecological urban planning, mobility, and sustainable urban systems.

  • Electives (6 ECTS, 2 courses):

    • Digital Tourism: Digital transformation, emerging technologies, and smart destinations.

    • Natural Assets in Island Tourist Destinations: Biodiversity, ecosystems, and conservation.

    • Climate Change in Tourism: Impacts of climate change on tourism.

Faculty Highlights

The program features experts such as Sergio Moreno Gil, director of EMOTUR and TIDES, who brings practical experience in tourism development and sustainable destination management.
